Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Messages: SMS Texting & MMS ("the App") collects, uses, and protects your information. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
The App operates primarily as a Default SMS/MMS Handler. Its core function is to allow you to send and receive carrier-based text and multimedia messages.
1. Information We Collect and How We Use It
To provide its core functionality, the App requests specific device permissions. We only collect and use data as strictly necessary to operate the App's features:
SMS & MMS Data (READ_SMS, SEND_SMS, RECEIVE_SMS, RECEIVE_MMS, RECEIVE_WAP_PUSH): As your default messaging app, we require access to your device’s message database to display your inbox, send new texts, and receive incoming messages. This data is processed locally on your device and transmitted through your cellular carrier to deliver messages.
Contacts (READ_CONTACTS): We access your device's contact list to display the names and profile pictures of the people you are messaging, and to allow you to easily search for contacts when starting a new conversation.
Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO): The App requires microphone access solely for the voice note feature. Audio is only recorded when you actively press and hold the voice record button within a chat to send an audio message to a recipient.
Location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION): The App accesses your precise or approximate location only when you actively choose to use the "Share Location" feature within a chat. This allows you to send your current coordinates or a map link to your contact.
Phone State (READ_PHONE_STATE): This is used to detect your cellular network status (e.g., to ensure you have a signal to send a message) and to manage messaging interruptions during incoming phone calls.
Device & Network Access (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, POST_NOTIFICATIONS, VIBRATE): These permissions allow the App to send and receive MMS data over the internet, alert you of incoming messages via push notifications and vibrations, and monitor network availability.
2. Third-Party Services and Libraries
The App utilizes specific third-party libraries and SDKs to enable certain features. These services may collect information as governed by their own privacy policies:
Google Play Services (Location & Maps): We use play-services-location to retrieve your coordinates when you share your location, and play-services-maps to display map interfaces within the app. Your use of these features is subject to the Google Privacy Policy.
Glide:
We use this image-loading library to efficiently display multimedia messages (MMS) and contact photos on your screen. It does not collect or transmit personal user data.
3. Data Storage and Sharing
Local Processing: Your SMS, MMS, and contact data are stored locally on your device using Android's native telephony databases.
Transmission: When you send a text, voice note, or location, that specific data is transmitted over your cellular network or internet connection directly to your intended recipient.
No Third-Party Selling: We do not sell, rent, or share your messages, contacts, location, or audio recordings with advertisers, data brokers, or any external third parties.
4. Security
We are committed to protecting your data. Because the App acts as a default handler, your messages are secured by the standard encryption and security protocols provided by your cellular carrier and the Android operating system. However, please be aware that standard SMS/MMS messages sent over cellular networks are not inherently end-to-end encrypted by default.
5. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our app's functionality or legal requirements. You are advised to review this page periodically for any changes.
6. Contact Us
If you have any questions or suggestions about our Privacy Policy or how your data is handled within Messages: SMS Texting & MMS, please contact us via the developer contact information provided on our Google Play Store listing.
